Happy St. Patrick's Day!
On this 17th of March, I am sitting here wondering what St. Patrick's Day is all about. I know it has to be about more than four-leaf clovers
, leprechauns
, pots of gold and rainbows
, the cries of "Kiss Me, I'm Irish!"
, and green beer
. This holiday is supposed to be about this man,
St. Patrick. Can anyone tell me about him? Or do we just celebrate this day to have a reason to get kissed and get drunk?Growing up, on St. Patrick's Day in elementary school, we would be sure to wear something green; otherwise, everyone could pinch us. Does this equate with "the wearing o' the green"? Or is it just another silly thing that we do on this day? I've always wondered what this holiday meant, so I am asking my readers to fill me in.
I guess I could scour the Internet and look up things about St. Patrick, but I think it is more fun to hear from people who celebrate this holiday. Plus, places like Wikipedia are not necessarily always current or correct. So, readers, I am asking for your comments and information.

Patrick was a most humble man who was taken as a captive (slave) from his family in Britian by the Irish.. God spoke to him and guided him back to freedom, but then God told him to return to Ireland to share the Good News of Jesus.. within a few generations all of Ireland became Christian and it was in good part by the Irish that Christianity then spread across Europe. I would recommend reading Patrick's most humble confession where he lays out his whole story in his own words.
